Total unemployment was down in August to 3.2 per cent from 3.3 per cent in July, and a sizeable gain — an increase of 14.4 per cent over July — was registered in job openings received by the VEC, Gifford said.
“NEW VEHICLE registrations, at 39,700, were the highest on record,” Gifford said. “And August is generally a mediocre month at best for registrations. This probably was the result of people rushing to buy the last of the 1972 models in anticipation of a substantial price increase on 1973 models.”
