KILMER SAID THAT only God can make a tree, a statement with which I heartily concur. He also implied that a poet might be a fool. “To say a poet is a fool might be the common rule, but I’ll say this; and you should know it, every fool is not a poet. Let’s get back to Kilmer’s assertion: “Only God can make a tree.” Recently I received a circular in the mail ottering for sale some redwood tree seed. Since then I’ve thought of the possibilities of redwood forests throughout the world.
