Hipocampo’s win gave jockey Leo O’Brien and trainer J.V.H. Davis their second victory of the day. Third was Henry Elser’s Marocco, with son Chris “Kip” Elser riding. He was followed closely by Bahalana, Clay “Skip” Brittle up.
SIXTH and final race of the day was Virginia Thoroughbred Association Plate, one and a quarter miles on the turf. The 13 horses got off to a ragged start with Croypha taking an early lead by nine lengths, followed by Wordenson, Castlebar II, and Native Berry.
On the back, Castle Bar moved to the top, soon to be overtaken by Wordenson and Dream Magic. Coming into the stretch’Rokeby’s Dream Magic flew to the front by five lengths and crossed the wire the winner by two over Mrs. William C. Wright’s Castlebar II and Montpelier’s Perigo
ridden by Skip Brittle of The Plains.
The winner is trained by Ridgely White of Middleburg and ridden by his son Mike.
