“There are also visual intrusions we never dreamed of,” Jacobsen said. He explained that visitors to the Shenandoah National Park, which runs for HO miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains, look down upon acres of “sprawl.”
Jacobsen regretted that such views from the scenic overlooks, he said it might be good that people are reminded, while they are seeking a “wilderness experience,” of such bad examples.
“I just don’t know. But we do know the bad examples are there. Perhaps they can act as a reminder to all of us just how important it is that the park is available, as a human refuge,” he said.
“We want to begin more dialog with surrounding counties,” the Park Superintendent said, “because we are affecting each other in our separated decisions on land use.”
