“We’d like to encourage alternate transportation, irriving at the Park by some means other that a :ar and then using buses to transport the visitors # to hiking and camping starting points.
“We’re undertaking a new back-country management plan, trying to figure out how to disperse the crowds. After all you’re not getting a real wilderness experience in a big bunch of people.
“Campfires will probably be eliminated.” Jacobsen said. “No one else’s campsite ever fits another equipment, so everyone always makes a new campsite for himself. Often they cut down trees and the charcoal is so deep and spread so wide around the camp sites that you can’t find a place to lay a sleeping bag,” he said.
“Singing around a portable stove may not be as romantic, but it will be a lot better for the park.”
