“Everything we handle is turned into chips to be used for fine writing paper,” Dost said. “The advantage of our operation is that we use everything. We don’t leave any laps.” Laps are the parts of trees which can’t be used for making lumber, such as treetops and branches and small trees. They are usually left scattered after an area has been logged.
“WE LEAVE the land clear. We can take the laps left by a logger, we can take the little trees, we can even take the stuff lying around dead, if it’s not too tangled up.”
