Besides the HUD funds, the Commission will also receive $15,000 from the Division of Justice and Crime Prevention of the Justice Department, and $15,000 from the Department of Health, Education Welfare. The Commisssion now has a fulltime executive secretary, a full-time criminal justice planner, a part-time elderly persons planner, and a secretaary. The additional funds will enable the Commission to hire a full-time planning engineer.
MADISON COUNTY has decided to join the Rappahannock-Rapidan Planning District Commission. The addition of Madison on the Commission—which now embraces Fauquier, Rappahannock, Orange, and Warrenton—will bring $25,000 in Federal Housing and Urban Development funds. The town and county of Culpeper have not yet joined the Commission, which has an office in Culpeper.
The Madison Board of Superisors approved a resolution to join the planning district by a vote of 2-0 on Friday. One member of the three-member Board abstained. The HUD funding for local planning assistance is based on the commission representing 75% of the population in the district.
Last Thursday, the Planning District Commision approved a $95,000 budget, anticipating the addition of Madison. Because of the additional revenue with another member, other local contributions were set at 20 cents per capita, a 2 cent reduction from last year. Total local contributions to the commission are $11,340, with the state matching the amount.
