But citizens speaking at that hearing opposed all bypass plans, noting that a bypass would take tourist traffic away from the shops along the existing road and that the four lanes would bottleneck when they reached the Shenandoah National Park.
The National Park Service said the existing three lane road over the Blue Ridge must remain as it is.
