THE long-standing “Sperryville problem” may get worse before it gets better, Maury Biddle, chairman of Rappahannock’s Water and Sanitation Authority told the Plan-, ning Commissioners Wednesday, November 19. The Water and Sanitation Authority is working on plans for a sewer system for Sperryville, so that effluent from houses and businesses in the unincorporated village will no longer pollute the Thornton River. But ground water supplies, from which Sperryville citizens get their drinking water, are polluted too. And there’s a chance the State Health Department could declare Sperryville a public health “menace” Biddle said.
