Solar heating

DIRECTORS of the Community Mental Health and Mental Retardation Services of Planning District 9 is considering the use of solar energy in heating its new Mental Health Facility. The Board has authorized Earth Design, a Fauquier County Design Firm, to undertake a preliminary study into the availability of Federal funds for solar heating of their clinic and administrative building in Culpeper.

The building, to be located opposite the old entrance to the Culpeper Hospital, would derive from 40 to 60% of its heating requirements from solar collectors located on the soutnern roof exposure.

Funding, if approved, for the solar project would be provided through the Federal Energy Resource and Development Administration. This grant program was set up for the purpose of providing rapid and widespread acceptance of solar energy systems
