Wallace Martin Carter, 53, of Madison was fatally injured Sunday in a traffic crash on Route 231 south of Sperryville. He was driving a 72 Plymouth traveling south when the vehicle went out of control on a curve and overturned, according to Trooper C. A. Moore. Carter was thrown from the vehicle.
His wife and five children, passengers in the car, escaped serious injury in the crash. Mrs. Carter suffered a bumped hip. Elaine Helen Carter, 4 years old, Martha Jane, 13, Arthur Lee, 5, and Bessie Hope Carter, 8, sustained bloody noses and Wallace Martin Carter, Jr. received a lacerated head.
They were all taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Sperryville and Washington rescue units.
