Tapestry to be shown
TO RECOGNIZE EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS Week, May 2-8, Rappahannock county club members are planning a Citizenship Night for May 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Flint Hill fire hall. Highlight of the program will be a slide presentation on the Virginia Extension Homemakers Bicentennial Tapestry. The tapestry project began in January 1975 when each county and city in the state was asked to make a square. The finished tapestry contains 104 twelve-inch needlepoint squares depictinghistorical, geographical or other themes. More than 22,000 hours went into the project, a combined effort of some 1,300 Extension Homemakers Clubs around the state which comprised the 24,000 member Council. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gregory of Newport News, who assembled the tapestry, will present slides of each square and relate the historical significance. This may be the only opportunity for citizens of Rappahannock County to see this exceptional piece of handwork.
