The larva of the thistle weevil is the stage in the bug’s life cycle important in a biological control program. After hatching from egss laid on the underside of a plant, the larva burrow into the thistle’s flower head and eat the tips of the seeds inside, making it impossible for the seeds to germinate. The thistle plant then dies without spreading.
