In the mornings, the youths participated in activities including arts and crafts, drama, nature, painting and drawing, songs and games, outdoor cookery, athletics and swimming lessons.
Afternoon activities consisted of a talk on Nature and Wildlife by James Bankston, Game Warden; a program on First Aid by Mrs. Vicki Slonnager; a series of 18th century Games lead by Mrs. Nancy Secrist, and a Softball Game organized by Mallie Maples. Every afternoon included a refreshing swim in the pool.
The highlight of the week came Friday with a field trip and cookout. The group went to the Thunderbird Museum and Archeological Park near Front Royal. They took a nature walk, a “duck” ride across the river and visited the diving site. A hot dog cookout followed. Mrs. Llewellyn S. Allison, Extension Agent, expressed appreciation to all of the local merchants who so generously donated items for the cookout.
