A DEVASTATING summer storm rocked the Flint Hill and outlying area Saturday afternoon, running the gamut of rain, hail, high winds, lightning, flash flooding and power outages. A lesser storm had raged in Flint Hill the day before.
A tree in the center of the village fell and severed electric wires, plunging Flint Hill into darkness for some eight hours.
Hail described by several as “the size of buck marbles,” and some as large as “bantum eggs,” shredded cornfields and gardens, broke out window panes and punched holes in window and door screens.
Even “old timers” had not seen anything comparable. In the home of Mrs. Peggy Clark there were 14 window panes broken by hail.
Lightning struck a barn on the property of Mrs. Lloyd Pullen and completely destroyed it along with 5000 bales of hay harvested by E.J. Welch.
