ANOTHER step has been taken in the long effort to solve Sperry ville’s public sanitation problem, and let’s all hope that the county and the community will be able to remain on the correct path that has been chosen.
This correct path involves the effort to have a sewage system constructed which will solve the existing problems without opening the floodgates to the creation of a myriad of new problems. The usual situation when communities like Sperryville are confronted with the need for a central sewer system is to listen to the “cost effective” con artists, who advocate oversized plants providing for too many extra hookups. The theory is—and it sounds attractive to financially-burdened localities—that the extra hookup fees and the extra customers will make it easier to pay for the system.
