Fire control policy in Shenandoah National Park is to fight all fires, even in areas designated as Wilderness, according to Assistant Park Superintendent Bill Loftis.
In discussion at the close of the June meeting of the Rappahannock Planning Commission, the Planners appeared confused over what the attitude of Park authorities would be towards fire outbreak in Wilderness Areas. They expressed concern that fires would be allowed to take their natural course and might rage out of control, especially under current drought conditions.
