since most ot the Virginians who have been voting Republican of late are really independents (or consider themselves dispossessed Democrats) they might find a combination of Dalton, Robb and Lane much to their liking.

Not only that, but there are said to be dark mutterings in certain Republican circles that some of the party’s top brass would not be all that unhappy to see Canada and Coleman done in.
It will be remembered that they frustrated the will of the GOP high command at the state Republican Convention at Roanoke by snatching their nominations away from lieutenant governor candidate Walter Craigie and attorney general candidate Wyatt Durette who supposedly had the GOP leadership’s nod.
Thus, for both the Republican and Democratic tickets in the campaign ahead, the not-so-stirring battlecry may be, “Every man for himself!”
