How disappointed I was to read the article entitled “Politics To Be Basis For Hiring?” in the June 23 issue of the Rappahannock News. The issue at hand seems to be whether or not to allow some very conservativeoriented school board members to assert theif.Qt^r biases in hiring mmistrators and teachers. 1 feel that board'ihemBfcfs have no right personally to screen each applicant for his-her “interests, hobbies, and membership in clubs or civic organizations.” How irrelevant! Are these board members interested in hiring good teachers, dedicated to their profession (whatever their own personal interests, hobbies, etc.), or are they more interested in hiring the epitomy of the “conservative, middle-class citizen”?
