A check Tuesday afternoon of a fire which smoldered along the mountain ridge near Chester Gap the previous day indicated that everything was "ok”, according to Forest Warden Tippy Jenkins.
"About an acre and a quarter was burned by a slow fire which smoldered along the ridge on the Patrick Carrigan property north of Huntly,” said Jenkins. “In spite of the parched conditions in the area, the fire did not burn freely,” said the warden, who added, “It was very difficult to get to and all up-grade, so that volunteers on foot were fatigued by the climb and the extremely hot weather."
