He noted that an environmental assessment of the proposed land exchange was circulated for public review and comment in late May. Subsequently, Jacobsen said, "solid public consenus” surfaced against the use of equal value land exchanges for solving the Park’s boundary problems.
"It was heartwarming indeed—even though counterproductive in our efforts to acquire a very valuable tract of privately owned land on Saddleback Mountain in Greene County—to hear so many arguments from so many of our Park neighbors in favor of retaining nearby and adjacent National Park lands,” said the Superintendent.
