Gilbert Lee Updike, age 84, of Washington, died July 4, 1978 at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal. Royal.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. at Washington Baptist Church, the Rev. David Moore officiating. Interment will be in Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Bom, October 23, 1893, Mr. Updike was the son of John Henry and Annie Kibler Updike. He was a carpenter by trade and was a WWI veteran of the US Army and a member of the Washington Baptist Church where he was a deacon for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ada Nokes Updike of Washington; three brothers, Roland Updike of Culpeper, John Updike and Byrd Updike of Washington, and one sister, Mrs. Lucille Fox also of Washington.
Pall bearers for the service will be Randall Updike, Lyle Updike, Ward Updike, Francis Updike, Edward Noakes and Horace Pullen Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Washington Baptist Church. His body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Maddox Funeral Home of Front Royal.
