Supplemental security income (SSI) payments can make a big difference in the quality of life for people 65 or over, or disabled, or blind who have limited income and do not own much property. Bruce A. Hundley, social security manager in Culpeper, said recently.
The SSI program now makes monthly payments to 4-/4 million people. I he maximum monthly Federal pavment is SI89 40 for an individual and $284.10 for an eligible couple. Some people get less because they have other sources of income, while others get more because they live in a State which adds to the Federal payment.
