Support

To the editor:

Community support for athletics at Rappahannock County High School seems to be greater than evef. The latest addition to our gymnasium is a pair of roster boards which were made and installed by Mr. Hubert Gilkey of Chester Gap. The boards are of commercial quality and have greatly improved the appearance of

Conservation?

To the editor:

The proposed amendments to the Zoning Ordinance changing our conservation districts into "ConservationRecreation” districts and permitting any form of outdoor profit-making activity in those areas, as a matter of right. are dangerous.

One amendment states that a purpose of having conservation-recreation districts is to promote profitmaking activities. This appears to be in direct opposition to all of the other purposes for having such districts, e.g., to protect and preserve the forest and wildlife.

Another amendment introduces the term outdoor recreation without defining it. gives three examples of outdoor recreation, and adds that outdoor recreation is not limited to these.

The worst amendment, however, would permit anything, anything, in the way of outdoor profit-making activities to be established anywhere on our county's slopes as a matter of right. No special permission would be necessary of discussion required. Another “King's Dominion" could result. The latest innovation that organization wants to add is nightly fireworks. Nightly! Pitty Hanover County.

All citizens interested in preserving the rural values oi Rappahannock County should express their views at the meeting of the Board ol Supervisors Thursday morning, 10:00 a.m., when these amendments are considered.
