own—valued up to SI,500 for an individual. $2,250 for a couple, and still get SSI payments. Not everything counts as a resource. A home does not count, and a car may not depending on its value. What does count are things that can be turned into cash, such as stocks, bonds, savings accounts, jewelry, and items of this nature.
It does not matter how old or young a disabled or blind person is to qualify for SSI payments. Even children can get payments, although their parents' income and resources will be considered when deciding their eligibility.
