He warned the Supervisors that if action wasn't taken to protect wells in the county, the water table could become polluted and contaminate other water sources. “We may just get a sewer into the water table” if wells aren’t controlled, he maintained.
Chairman E. P. Luke explained that a well producing only a five-gallon flow originally served the 20 houses in Rappahannock Lakes. When this supply proved inadequate to serve all 20 households at the same time, a spring above the property was wired into the system, according to Luke. This spring, situated just below a septic field, is the source of contamination.
