Luminaria^
Being Sold
Area residents, again this year, will be afforded the opportunity to join thousands of other Christians throughout the country, in placing luminaria outside their homes. This is an old Mexican custom which has spread rapidly in this country. The luminaria are placed outside, making a path to the door to lipit the way for the Christ Child to enter homes and lives on Christmas Eve.
Luminaria consists of white bags, plumber’s candles and sand and are placed eight to ten feet apart around churches and homes. A mass lighting takes place at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and the candles are allowed to burn themselves out during the night.
The cost of each kit, six bags and candles and sufficient sand, is $1.50 and are being sold by the Washington Methodist Church. Orders may be picked up at the church on Saturday, December 16 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
