There are many Rappahannock County sheep producers who should file an application for payment under the Wool Incentive Payment Program.
Receipts are needed for shorn wool and unshorn lambs that are sold this year. These receipts should be brought to the Rappahannock County ASCS Office as soon as sales for the year are completed.
Virginia sheep growers received $267,688 from the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for their 1979 wool marketings. The incentive payments went to 2,021 producers.
Sheep producers in the state marketed 623,000 pounds of shorn wool and 75,120 hundred-weight of unshorn lambs during 1979, earning payments of $181,300 and $86,388, respectively.
The objective of the ASCS wool program is to encourage growers to increase production and improve the quality of wool.
