A decision on a town leasn law was also delayed until the same time. Miller reported that the issue was being considered in response to complaints about loose dogs bothering both visitors and town residents.
He added that he’d been unable to find any record of an earlier town leash law in an old copy of Washington’s ordinances provided by Miss Ruby Jenkins. The existing laws apparently speak to dogs only on the point that all animals must be treated humanely, Miller said.
“Is there any way we can see a copy of the ordinances?” asked Charlie Manson.
Miller answered that he hadn’t brought Miss Jenkins’ copy to Wednesday’s meeting but promised to do so for the council’s September 10 session.
Returning to the subject of a leash law, Miller said he’d received three calls in opposition to the proposal. He noted that two people had registered complaints on roaming dogs at the council’s July meeting and that there •had been an additional | complaint prior to that time.
He emphasized that the council members didn’t intend actually to adopt an ordinance that night but rather wanted to know the feelings of town residents.
