Regular Flushing

Once the new pipes are installed, said Fisher, the town can begin a regular sixmonth flushing schedule which should eliminate the muddy, discolored water caused by the fire company’s opening of fire hydrants. Flushing the system now, he added, would probably result in additional leaks.

The council proposed rate increases of 40 per cent—to $4.20 for the base rate of 3,000 gallons with 14 cents per 100 gallons over that charged for up to 10,000 gallons. New rates will be formally established after a public hearing and vote at the council's September 10 meeting.
