The entire Compton family at the cafe? served quite a crowd all day and Ruby Dwyer marveled at the light and beauty of the restoration of the old church. Just across the street Melissa Harris served several varieties of locally made goat cheese, meatballs from the Miller farm and Sherri Fickel’s artisan bread, all in keeping with the theme of the magazine to celebrate the products of the Piedmont. More quietly, both the Shadowrock Guest House (www.vrbo.com/176928) and Mr. Pumphreys newly renovated ‘Summer Kitchen’ house (www.vrbo.com/183436), both on Main Street, have begun serving visitors to Sperryville. The Friday sampling of Sabre’s exquisite French custard swans, tiramisu and baklava at Fellegatta’s introduced another quality Main Street service. Yet, Main Street still has many family homes, and it is that mix of business and residential which makes it such a special place. The annual Sperryville Volunteer Fire department parade along Main Street on Friday brought the community together to enjoy a perfect late spring evening.
