Barbara Haile, a well-respected Rappahannock artist, opens a show of new work entitled “Grounding in Open Space* on June 6 at the Middle Street Gallery in the town of Washington. An opening reception tor the artist will take place Saturday, June ?, from 3 to 6 p.m. The public is invited.
This is the artist's first show at the Middle Street Gallery though she has exhibited widely throughout the county for aver a decade. It runs through June 29.
This current group of paintings concentrates on the landscape around the artist's home outside of “Little” Washington. The work that will be on view consists of small to large paintings that interrelate to each other, the smaller pieces often being studies for the larger ones.
Heiles work has taken many subject-related turns over her careen but her bold use of color applied with brush or palette knifo is always exuberant and intuitive. These new works have an even more specific and structured relatedness that illustrates the artist’s concern with space and color and how the two work together to create a whole.
