Though some works, like “Magenta Winter,'* verge on abstraction and the simplification of forms and color, other works^hold a firm grip on a readable landscape as in “Our Tbwn." an image from the hill above the artist’s home looking toward Washington. 'Phis work owes a great deal to the artist Paul Cezanne, as do others, but the use of color is her own.
Other paintings, such as “Evening with Gustav Klimt.” has the titled artists color influence with a little Pierre Bonnard. That said, the works are not mere pastiches of the above artists, but intuitive referential expressions that cany her vision forward and thus make her work stronger.
Most of the smaller works were done “plein air,” while the larger pieces, uften referencing the smaller ones, are worked in the studio, sometimes being taken outside for a check on nature's light, color and space.
The artist’s puinting “Morning Walk.” a powerful work, has large dominate color forms, with what she terms her neigh' bor s bullet-like morning stroll with his dog, a daily event she captures with grace and strength. It is an example of real action caught in color and form.
The beauty and color of these works can be experienced close up as color and textural events, or from a distance as landscape inspired structures. 'Phis is a beautiful and complete group of paintings that has allowed Heile to establish herself in her new landscape and foel grounded but still able to paint intuitively.
