Most know Amissville’s Connie Compton Smith as simply Sheriff Smith. However, she is a lot more than the badge she wears. This reporter, who is no relation to Smith, had the privilege of sitting down with her this week and finding out more about the woman who keeps Rappahannock County safe.

• Birthplace: Castleton, 2.5 miles from where she now resides
• Family: Seven brothers and sisters in the immediate area with two more in Florida; married for five years; three grown-up step children
• Favorite movies: “Gods and Generals,” and “Cold Mountain”
• Favorite music: Now, the country stations. Back in high school, rap and Michael Jackson.
• Last book read: Let’s Roll’ by Lisa Beamer.
