These coal fields are the source of supply for America's western slope where views of the dusky diamonds are found to the thickness of 50 feet. But we are interested in Steamboat Springs, 33 miles further west, elevation 6680 feet and the end of the "Moffat Road" as at present constructed. Named thus because of having 32 springs with as many different tastes to its gushing flows. The town has electric lights, water works fed by pure springs and is the center of the strawberry gardens of the west. This year they will commence shipping their berries about July 10th and they estimate they will have 26 carloads for export from this point alone. From here we take an auto for Craig, 49 miles still further west, where we arrive in five hours safe and sound but the roads around the mountains were still beset with quite deep gulches where, should an accident happen to throw one down it's declivity not enough of one's anatomy would be left for "remains." As we neared the end of our journey the country became more like agricultural lands and reaching Craig we were met by our dear ones who are availing themselves of present opportunities and have taken up 320 acres of government land, have broken out 80 acres 36 of which are producing wheat which bids fair for a crop. They have erected a cozy house and barn and arc favored with several springs on their allotment.
