Jim McCormlck, Clarkson's alternate in the box, was also one of the best men that ever sent a ball whizzing across the plate. As a rule, pitchers are not good batsmen, but Jim was a glittering exception. John Flynn, a third pitcher in the string, had a wonderful drop ball, great speed and was a good batter and a fast fielder. He was a tip-top fellow, too, and had his arm not given out would have been a shining light in the profession.
