The equipment we use is simple and cheap. A small barn 10 by 12 feet, and having a hay mow of two tons capacity, provides sufficient shelter for three cows. Since the grain feed is bought each month as needed a few tin lined boxes furnish the only necessary grain bins. During the summer period when hay is at its lowest figure two tons of hay are stowed away in the loft and three tons are stacked close to the barn. In order to preserve the stack, a foundation of logs covered with brush is used and the stack is topped with a canvas cover to protect it from the wind and to give a more water proof covering than the loose hay alone. A woven wire fence incloses the greater part of the threefourths of an acre which is divided into three lots. A well, supplying an abundance of water, completes the list of equipment that we use in the general care of the cows.
