(Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2 o'clock at the Flint Hill Baptist church with Rev. M. E. Sliger, pastor of the •*. church, and a former pastor, Rev. P. Harris Chelf of Roanoke, of* ficiating. Interment wiU be in the - Masonic cemetery at Washington.
Active pallbearers will be R< M. Menefee, C. J. Miller, W. JO* Wood, Jr., Charles B. Wood, ami James M. Settle. The honorary pallbearers wiU consist of the county officials, deacons of the Flint Hill Baptist church and friends and neighbors.
Mr. Wood was the last member of his immediate family, ike is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elisa Wood, a foster daughter, Miss , Ruth Stevens, a nephew, WiUiam H. Wood, and one niece. Captain » Dorothy H. Wood, WAC, of New Otaty.

Washington Is decking itself to vie for the prise to be giveh for the best and most attractive piece of home decoration for the holiday season, but the town is not alone in dressing up in festive regalia.- „ _
It has been stated that a few folks are thankful Mrs. W. P. Slaughter lives far enough away -to. he excluded in the judging for the prise offered by the ladies of the Auxiliary to the Rappahannock Fire Company. Her home, “Meadowbrook Hall,” near Huntly, is a Christmas card in itself. It is garlanded and tastefully and beautifully dressed for the season. If you haven’t got ‘‘Christmas in your bones” by now, just take one look!
The homes in Washington are beginning to get their holiday trim, as are the homes in all the other county communities.
Through the courtesy of B. M. Varner of Sperryville, a community Christmas tree was lighted on the Courthouse lawn on Tuesday evening. The citizens of the 'community have expressed their appreciation for this act of kindness of Mr. Varner who installed the wiring for the lights ■ on the tree and* also the wiring for the lights which decorate the Courthouse door.
The annual community Christmas tree is resplendent in glory in Flint -Hill, also.
The Auxiliary to the Fire Company in Washington is emphasizing safety , in their program of _ ertcouT^ging Ohri^tonap decorating. The judging will be done at 7 o’clock Friday evening, jDecember 23, and the rules govern the following particulars: suitability to surroundings and the occasion; originality and ingenuity; perfection of workmanship; excellence of arrangement; color harmony, and the arrangement to be designed to last through NewYear’s day arid the condition and durability of material used.
