Robbed of $790
Thomas Puljen was robbed ,of his savings—to the extent o| $790 in. cash—at his home near Amissvilie Saturday afternoon, December 17, by a woman who was passing through the country; in a lead-colored Lincoln car.
The robbery took place around the noon hour.
The woman, thought to have been a gypsy, posed as a religious worker and healer. She claimed that she could cure the elderly Mr; Pullen toy her preaching and praying. She told Mr. Pullen that after she had blessed his money, he must leave it under_:tho pillow on his bed for nine consecutive days. This procedure she claimed was a sure cure for rheumatism, and airy other aUment/ AftSr lier praying and Bible reading and some procedure which involved the nse of a glass of water (front which the woman carefully wiped all fingerprints), she ‘Ibleseed” hi3 money and apparently placed it under the pillow on the bed. When Mr. Pullen’s son heard the details of all this, about 4 o’clock Saturday evening, be Investigated and found only some wadded up paper under the pillow »n the bed. He notified Sheriff Lillard. With practically no clues, the apprehension of this phetutfO-religous healer seemed almost impossible. There is hope that some people in nighfooring communities nay be able to help if they can recall seeing the strange woman >n that day. Indignation at the (treatment >f the ill old man is high in the :ounty, and there could be lumber of suggestions for tier— treatment if she can <be found.
