Some men come to Christ by the way Of the star in these days. Appeals they think must be first of all to the intellect. They must be persuaded concerning His divinity, the- authenticity of the Scriptures, the geniineness of the mission of the Church, and these are all stars which lead us to the Saviour. . . ■ <
There are others who come simply-because they listen to the song. They have no need of argument. The music from Heaven, satisfies the deepest longings of their soul, and under its fascination they yield to his entreaties; but let it be noted that whether one comes by* the star way or by the way of the song, the last step Which leads (into the kingdom must, be taken by faith. In hie We are all alike, whether wise or ignorant, rich or poor, young or old, for by faith we receive the gift of eternal life.

Christman in the Ukraine

I write of Polish Ukraine with the rich Russian Ukraine . lying to the east and Germany on its western border.
Before war came to destroy them, they were a happy, industrious, kind people. Their houses were built in small villages while outside the villages they owned small farms. „This family of my story had five cows and made yellow butter, “like the sunflower,” to sell. They raised many geese and chickens. Their rich, black soil brought forth abundantly potatoes, corn and barley. They raised many pigs for. the market. Famous gardeners were they with vegetables and melons.
The Orthodox Ukrainian was the church of the people. In form it is very similar to the Roman Catholic but has no connection with the head of that, church at Rome.
It is Christmas Eve, a fast day in the- church of the Ukraine. At night the fast is broken witb a simple supper of fish With ‘‘sunflower** butter^ the cfhief dish being porridge, baked in a saucepan and served with a compote of apples, peaches and other fruit.
