-Mr. Leas anniversary sale is the third of this kind held at Lea Bros, store. The first sale was in 1950 and another in 1338. He has a handbill of the 1938 sale andthe prices are so low that it’s astounding.
Clerking in the store at present are Mrs. Virginia Estes, Mrs. Ashby Wayland, and Ned Settle. Mr. Lea recalls nine clerks in the store. “Some of them got married and left, some got married and stayed, and some were just youngsters working after school hours. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Woodward both worked here,” he stated.
When asked how he happened to come to Washington, he said Mr. Floyd Compton would have to take the blame. “I was looking for a place when I met Mr. Compton in Staunton—he-was traveling at the time—and he told me about Washington.”
County Raises $500
In CROP Campaign
Tlie sum of $500 was raised in the county in the CROP campaign which ended .Saturday.
Of the total, $53.66 was realized from the auction sale held at the firehouse in Washington January 14.
