He was the fifth president of the United States.
He was born in Westmoreland county, Virginia.
He was commissioned as lieutenant in the Third Virginia Regiment during tthe Revolutionary War.

In 1799 he was elected governor of Virginia.
In 1811 he became Secretary of State.

Chapel
On Thursday, January 12, Mrs. Leslie Fox Keyser, the Elementary Supervisor for Rappahannock county, was the gue»t speaker at the chapel program. She gave three criteria for happipess: “Do willingly what you havp to do;; de well .what yuo have to do; do a littleimore than vou have to do.”
In addition to this inspirational talk, the pupils of the third, .fourth, and fifth grades, accompanied by Mrs. Lawrence, sang led by Mrs. Johnson. sang j“America” ahd "Come ot School.” Several girls of the fifth grade gave thie devotionjals byrepeat>ing in concert the 23rd Psalm, and singing a prayer,. The-program closed with “The Battle ,Hymn of the Republic” sung by the entire school.
Basketball
The Sperryville school girls’ .team and the Sperryville Town girls’ teams played on Wednesday, January 11, at 2:00. The .Sperryville girls’ team won.
This was followed by a game by the eighth grade boys and the high school 'boysv The eighth grade boys won by a score of 10 to 9. ^The Sperryville-boys’ and girls’ teams will play the Washington Boys and girls <5n Friday, January 20, at Sperryville. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be sold by the F.F.A. club. Admission 25c and 35c.
The Sperryville boys' and girls’ teams will play Stanley at Stanley on Tuesday, January 24.
