F.F.A. Pig Contest

Three years ago a group of F.F.A. students and their instruct tor, Gene Wagner, got together to discuss the possibility of organizing a Purebred Pig club in Rappahannock coa nty. Our chapter was not too strong at that time and we could get together only §25,. enough to buy one good, registered pig. After discus-ing our plans with several leading farmers who were interested in our young future farmers, our problems were solved. Three of these men immediately donated enough money to purchase another good pig. We proceeded GY purchase two young gifts from C. S. Patterson, the o tstanding Berkshire breeder in Virginia. Tiiese were given to Gordon Thornhill and David Wright as a start. In return, they each gave back to our chapter two registered .pigs, which of 'course were again given out to other worthy F.F.A. boys. With thfs start of two pigs our club membership has grown to 15.
These future farmers have sold to other boys and farmers in this county a total of 18 registered pigs. We feel that this is, at Jeast, a start toward introducing new and better blood-lines into the swine of our county. Dolmont Farms, owned by W. B. Dolph, deserves a great deal of credit 'for furnidhirtg ithe hierd boars, so necessary to keep the club moving. “Youi can be assured, Mr. Dolph, that these young future farmers are- indeed grateful to you and to your farm manager, C. C. Zinn, for the splendid co-operation you have shown our F.F.A. organization.”
