For Rale Increase
The Virginia Telephone A Telegraph Company on Tuesday, December 5, filed an application with the Virginia State Corporation Commission asking for increases in its exchange rates, and for certain other minor changes in its General Exchange Tariff provisions and rates, that will affect . some few customers in all of the company's exchanges. Requested rates for some exchanges would become effective only after conversion to dial epsration.
N. A. Mahone, Northern Virginia district manager for the company, said that increased rates were now imperative if the company was to earn a fair return on its investment and continue to improve and expand Its facilities and service.
Mr. Mahons said that it was Hot possible for the company to borrow the large amounts of money required to continue new construction and expansion unless the company could make a fair return on its present investment which, in spite of every economy, it has not been able to do for many months pest under Re present rates. - » Tfo1 rates- applied for, Mr. Ms-' bone said, ere the minimum rates which will produce sufficient revenue to return to the company the required and reasonable cost of conducting its business.
