Fire Destroys Smoot Home
Monday Night
Fire completely destroyed the borne of Arthur Smoot on Monday night. The family had left the 6-coom home, located on the Fodders tack road at the Resettlement, when the terrific wind-storm of the day had blown away the roof from the hen-house and barn. Mr. Smoot and his wife and two children became frightened and decided to leave their home where toe wind-storm seemed so fierce to go to the home of his brother nearby. T
The family had had very little fire in the house all day because of the danger from the winds and they thought they had checked all fires before they left the house. By the time they arrived at the home of his brother, flames could be seen at their own home.
Ned Jones had to drive to the town of Washington to turn in the fire alarm, as all telephone lines had fallen to the heavy winds.
By the time the fire company could arrive, the fire had such head-way that nothing could be done to save the house. The property was partially covered by insurance. jt. Foster Fire Soea Pet Oat
A fire Tuesday at Ned Foster’s home, on the Fodderstack road near Hint Hill was soon extinguished. A neighbor riding by saw the smoke and warned the family. The fire was in a basement roomj and was put under control before the fire company could arrive.
