Whips Rappahannock
Winds that reached 50- and 80mile gales ripped through the; C°untjr all day Monday, tearing down trees, breaking telephone! and power lines, and frightening those who tried to travel and those who stayed in-doors.
Most of the county was without electric power from about 10 ' o'clock in the morning to 4 in the afternon, and the telephones were out most of the day.,
Harris Hollow, near Washington, caught a particularly heavy wind-etorm, as did the section near Castleton. In Harris Hollow; xoofb were ripped from small buildings, and apple trees as well as large shade trees erere blown over.
In Flint Hill a tree fell into a side of the front porch of the Ricketts HoteL
In Washington a tree blear across the power Une near Mrs. A. M. Venter’s home. While she iwas standing outside her home, looking at the broken tree ant. power link, a piece of pipe was blown from the house and struck Mrs. Verner on the bead, knocking her oat.
To add to the Washington don-' fusion, fire-siren wires shorted! and three times the screaming fire alarm brought the firemen rushing out into the bad weather.
Signs were blown down all along the highways and at filling stations. Few fodder shocks were left standing.
