County Treasurer R. L. Brown reported an $8,000 deficit at the Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday morning, June 6. At the same time, the treasurer stated that collections of taxes were $7,000 in excess of collections at this time last year, and also that records showed fewer delinquents than this time last year. *
All members of the board were present.
Richard Worthington, resident highway engineer, read the county road budget with itemized expenditures, showing about $80,000 to be used for maintenance. Resolu. tioins passed for road improvements, besides those already included in the budget, were for two bridges on Route 629, between 628 and a dead-end, to replace open fords, the timber and rocks to be furnished by property owners on the road; and a proposed road off Route 626, on Starks lane, terminating at a fork leading to the Adelaide Sloan property and some property of Joe D. Keyser.
Maypr Dorothy C. Davis appeared before the board for permission to have the yard to the i rear of the Courthouse used for a playground for children. A period of two weeks was requested by the board members to make their decisions, since they would like to know if the noise would annoy those working in the Courthouse, if there would be any objections from other districts in the county, and to study any other problems that might arise.
