Garden Club Announces
Beautification Contest
The Garden Club has announced a contest to beautify a section of the Thornton River in Sperryville. Because of the natural beauty and charm of the river and because so much of the traveling public sees it, this particular spot seems to invite further development of its possibilities. Since so many of the people who live in this area have done much already to make their premises attractive, the Garden Club l\opes through this contest to show appreciation for what has been done and inspire even greater accomplishments.
The rules of .the contest are as follows: - 1, The—purpose of the contest is to beautify the premises of homes and businesses on hoth sides of the highway between the bridge next to the Esso service station and the bridge next .to the V.FW hall in Sperryville.
2. The contest closes May 15, 1952.
There must be at least ten homes or businesses competing. A smaller number would not justify a contest.
4. Three cash prizes will be given: $15 first prize; $10 second prize; $5 third prize.
5. The winners will be chosen .by votes of the adult citizens of Rappahannock county. They may vote on a penny postal to be mailed to a person who will be. designated later. The votes must be in by May 20, 1952.
6. Persons who are entrants in the contest should notify the secretary of the Garden Club (Mrs. R. V. Snead) by September 1, 1951.
The Garden Club earnestly hopes that all of those who are eligible will co-operate in making one of the beauty spots of Rappahannock even more attractive than it now is.
If anyone can suggest a good slogan (or even a poem!) for this cantesf the club would be delighted to have it.
