Include School, Concerts

The Blue Ridge Music Festival, a project in the active planning stage, for four months, is now a definite set of plans, according to William Haaker, director of the Virginia Orchestra.

Director Haaker stated in a telephone conversation Tuesday that the concerts for this summer’s season will be held August 12, 19, and 26, and that the music school camp, though not on as large a scale as it is hoped it may grow to lie, will be held.

Preparation of the site for the concerts is in progress. This is being' done by the State group with their fund&

Local funds, and funds derived from the sale of memberships in the county and adjoining counties and towns, are to be in the hands of the local directors and will be spent on music.

There is an idea prevalent, possibly picked up from metropolitan newspapers, that the Blue Ridge Music Festival means only three concerts. This is not the whole case, according to the directors. It also means that there will be a school for serious minded music students and a capable faculty for same. It should be borne in mind that outside publicity sometimes contains matters that seem a bit inaccurate to local people; however, “we need memberships and the funds that go with them to spend on music for us all, so we will not quibble over some details,’’ States a director.
