Since the passage of the 1950 Amendments to the Social Security Act, Mrs. Merriam’s monthly check for herself and two children has been increased from $74 a month to $123.80. Michael will soon be 18. At that time she will receive $92.80 a month, instead of $53, until Susan is 18. Mrs. Merriam will not be 65 when Susan is 18 but when she is, if she has not remarried, she will receive $46.40 the rest of her life.
